Make Money Online by Testing Websites & Apps
Earning money by testing websites and apps is a great earner. Although it can take a significant time investment (but not always!) it is one of the most profitable ways to spend your time during your online earning journey.
You may be asked to test certain aspects of a site or app, or in some cases even be asked to do an overall full site/app test. In all cases, you will be expected to report your findings in detail for payment. Check out our list of such earning opportunities below.
People often pass over earning money by being a user tester, because they think they don’t have the skills needed but in reality, no prior experience is needed.

How to Earn Money By Testing Apps & Websites
That’s all well and good, but how do you earn money from testing apps and websites? Luckily there are lots of services available online that allow you to do just that.
The owner of the app/website will register with these services and pay people just like you to test them. The tasks range from simply clicking around and giving your personal view of the website to in-depth functionality testing by following specific instructions.
Below we’ll look at the top sites that pay you to test.
What do You Need to Start Testing Online?
The entry requirements for earning money to test online are relatively low, but you will need:
- PC/Laptop and potentially a tablet or phone.
- An internet connection.
- A microphone/headset (not your laptop’s built in one). It doesn’t need to be expensive, we just use this cheap gaming headset.
- A webcam. Your laptop’s built-in one will do. If you don’t have one, again go for a cheap webcam with decent reviews.
- A quiet environment such as a bedroom or spare room in your house.
And that’s it!
The Best User Testing Sites That Pay You to Test
We have a wide range of sites in our list below that pay you to test websites, apps and more. Each opportunity is different but we suggest that you sign up for each to get a feel for what is right for you.
Some testing takes longer, with a higher payout, and some take only a minute with a lower payout. Some require a microphone, webcam or both, or neither!
And some testing opportunities even allow for tests on smart devices, watches, chatbots, games and more. There really is a lot of variety here!
"Great pay at $1 per minute, good amount of testing opportunities."
User Testing is probably the best known site that allows you to earn money by testing websites and apps. This is for good reason as it has a clean, easy to use interface, a good amount of work available and fair payments.
You’ll earn around $10 per standard test for a 10-20 minute test, or $1/minute if you choose to opt for “live” tests where you’ll be taking to the customer (owner of the site/app) as you test.
Having a microphone and webcam is essential, but something cheap and functional is enough.
User Testing Review: If you want to earn money by testing websites and apps, then User Testing should be your first option. They pay $1 per minute for both unmonitored and live testing really is fantastic. The tests themselves are often interesting and sometimes you’ll even be able to get a glimpse at new sites or functionality from major organisations before they’re released to the public.
"Options for recorded and non-recorded testing sessions. Good pay, and quick review turnaround."
UserZoom (which has acquired and combined with Validately) is the closest competitor to User Testing and offers two types of testing. The first is recorded tests where you’ll speak out loud while you navigate the site/app giving your thoughts. The second is simply taking a look at the site without being recorded and then giving your views in a survey. It’s the best of both worlds as it gives two distinct ways to earn by testing websites.
Pay is good, at $10 for a 10-20 minute recorded test session and the non-recorded survey tests at around $5 each.
UserZoom Review: A great option for those that don’t want to do the speak out loud/recorded tests as they have the survey-only testing opportunities. Again, good pay and a quick turnaround for getting your testing sessions reviewed and approved.
"Best paying, but quite strict appr
TryMyUI is one of the highest earning user testing sites. You can expect to earn from $10-$30 an hour, with each test being 20 minutes long approximately. They are sticklers for quality however, so you really need to be on your game when testing with zero distractions. You should be able to grab around 5 tests a week which will work out at around $50 – not too shabby!
The tests are just “talk out louds”, meaning that as you navigate the site or app, you comment on everything out loud. Say what you like, don’t like, and what you’re trying to look for or achieve on the website as you browse and search through it.
TryMyUI Review: Great pay, but be aware that they do expect high-quality testing in return. Just make sure you concentrate and follow their instructions exactly and there should be no issues. As usual, website and mobile app testing are available which gives you flexibility and just as importantly some variation in your work.
"Huge earning potential but needs you to learn their testing process and terminology."
UTest takes a different approach to allow you to earn by testing websites and apps. Rather than presenting you with simple tests and asking you to talk out loud or to answer a survey, they manage it in a way that a software company would do internally.
This means that you’ll see test cycles, test cases, issue and bug reporting etc. This can admittedly be overwhelming but they have an academy that walks you through everything. If you put the time in to understand the interface, UTest can be a very profitable way to make money by testing sites and apps.
UTest Review: Unlike others, you will need to put a lot of time in to learn the interface and the process before you jump into tests. Their academy does help, but you will need to invest time in this. Pay is variable but generally very competitive and
"A solid paid-to-test opportunity."
Userlytics follows the same general approach to earning money by testing websites and apps. You’ll need a microphone and sometimes a webcam (see the top of the post for our recommendations). Payouts are around $10 a test making it competitive with others on this list.
It’s great for payouts as PayPal payments are sent out every Friday. This means that you’ll get your hands on the cash you’ve made from user testing quicker than some others on the list.
Userlytics Review: A standard user testing platform that allows you to earn by reviewing both websites and apps. Nothing ground breaking here but pays well and processes payments quickly. Definitely a user-testing site to add to your online earning portfolio!
"No microphone or webcam needed, simple testing, fair pay."
Enroll is a rather unique option for earning for testing websites and apps. No microphone or webcam is required as you will simply be comparing two websites, clicking on specified links on the website etc. The testing is very basic and very easy, which is great news!
Because of the simplicity, you’ll be looking at $0.10 to $1.50 per test, but they’re so quick to complete that it makes the earnings worthwhile.
Enroll Review: A quick, simple and easy to jump into opportunity for earning money with user testing. A very low time commitment means that you can dip in and out when you want to. Over half a million tests have been performed by users so far which shows the reach of this mini user testing platform. Ideal for those who want to earn without needing to sacrifice much of their spare time.
"Get paid to test mobile games!"
PlaytestCloud is a very niche user testing site that pays you to test mobile games. If you’re into playing games and want to turn that hobby into some cash in hand, then this is the ideal paid user testing opportunity for you.
The amount of tests available fluctuates but there should be a steady stream of mobile games to test (and be paid for!), but it will depend on your country/location/device (android/iOS).
PlaytestCloud Review: With a fun focus on gaming and a decent amount of testing opportunities, this should provide a profitable sideline to the usual website/app tests in the rest of the list. As a warning, fluent English is a requirement although it is unclear how strict they are on this exactly. A great way to combine gaming and user testing to earn some side cash.
"Testing for websites, apps, wearables, smart devices, games and chatbots. High paying."
TestBirds is a site that has flown (sorry!) under the radar for years but has seen a huge boost recently. It has clients such as BMW, DHL, Audi and more. Most importantly, it offers to pay you very well for testing. You’ll be looking at around 20EUR/$25 per usability test. They’re also quite unique in that they offer extra bonuses if you are able to find bugs.
Another unique spin is that testing is not just limited to websites and apps, but also covers wearables and trackers (smart watches etc.), smart devices, games (including VR and AR) and even chatbots/assistants.
TestBirds Review: With a very broad range of testing types, high-profile clients and high payouts, this is one user testing site that you absolutely need to get in on. With big clients, it’s clear that this is a professional outfit which should put your mind at ease about the legitimacy of the platform.
#9 UserCrowd (Formerly UsabilityHub)
"Rapid testing at less than 1 minute per test!"
UserCrowd excels at rapid testing, meaning that you’ll earn money for tests that last less than a minute! Of course, the pay reflects the speed at $0.10 per test, but the value to you is that you can dip in and do a 1-minute test at your leisure. So no need to sit in front of a computer for hours rigorously testing.
UserCrowd Review: Very, very quick tests that are ideal for those who want to dip in and out, or not spend much time to earn money with user testing. Low pay per test but because it only takes a minute of your time, why not grab some extra pennies?
"A two-tiered tester structure allows you to earn more as your testing skills improve."
UberTesters has a two-tier tester platform. If you have never tested before you can join as a beta tester for user feedback testing and be paid for your thoughts. But they also have a second tier for those that are knowledgeable about user testing. If you wish to go for the second tier you must pass a theoretical test and practical test to get the free certification.
This dual-tier of testers means that as you improve your skills you can go for the certification to boost how much money you make by testing websites and apps.
UberTesters Review: The two-tier tester format is an interesting one and gives you the opportunity to learn, grow and boost your user testing income. They make it clear that as your testing rating increases (even without the certification), your hourly rate will increase. So there is a benefit to testing properly.
The great thing about being paid to test websites and apps is the sheer amount of different services available. Remember that you’re not limited, so signing up for multiple sites is recommended. This means that you will always have a constant flow of tests and ways to earn with that user testing.
And this top 10 is just the beginning. Below we have the complete list of all ways to earn online with user testing. On top of that, we also have our complete list of ways to learn online to boost how much you earn online even more.
Remember to check out our earning guides linked in the list below before your jump in, to ensure that you don’t miss out on extra profits or productivity/time saving tips for your chosen website/app.
